Second Wind Foundation Names Nikki Grimes as New Executive Director
Experienced nonprofit leader brings more than 25 years of fundraising and leadership experience to Upper Valley recovery organization
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vermont — Sept. 11, 2026 — Second Wind Foundation, which operates the Upper Valley Turning Point recovery center and two transitional residences, has named Nikki Grimes as its new Executive Director.
Grimes will lead an organization that provides a welcoming meeting space at Upper Valley Turning Point, as well as transitional housing for people recovering from substance use disorder. Second Wind Foundation uses a peer-support model in which people in recovery support and learn from one another.
In her new role, Grimes will focus on strengthening community partnerships, expanding recovery coaching, and maintaining excellence across the organization’s team and programs.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nikki to the Second Wind Foundation and Upper Valley Turning Point,” said Peter Mallary, president of the board. “She brings a wealth of experience, along with a genuine passion for the peer-support model of recovery. Nikki understands what makes this organization and the people we serve so special. We’re excited to have Nikki lead us into the future, building on our strengths, growing our connections in the community, and expanding our ability to support people in recovery.”
Grimes brings more than 25 years of experience in fundraising and nonprofit leadership. Before joining Second Wind Foundation, she served as Director of Philanthropy for VNA & Hospice, supporting communities across Bennington, Rutland, and Franklin Counties. Previously, she was the longtime Executive Director of the Upper Valley Humane Society (UVHS), where she led efforts that resulted in more than 5,000 animals finding homes, provided spay/neuter surgeries for an additional 3,000 animals, and distributed at least 250,000 pounds of pet food to help families keep their beloved pets at home.

It is a privilege to be part of something so important,” Grimes said. “My number one priority is preserving the heart and soul of this organization for the people we serve.”
